hmmm, seems my great great grandpappy remembered the 'wawew' wuz fought over having local control and state government rather than big govt and central control. I traveled to D.C. this summer and toured the thousand man_women staffed Dept of Ag as well as the hundreds of thousands of other burecrats setting at computers making our lives 'better' and sucking down about 32% of the hard earned money you make in taxes to pay for the duplication of State and local services. Now think who 'won' the war.IJ.IJ. :) :-( My great great grandpappy was the first casualty of the war. He was a cannon barrel inspector at Fo't Sumpta' and was quietly going about his business having missed the briefing concerning "we gonna start the war now"

As a northerner and product of northern govt schools who heard all through formative years that southerners were worse than Satan himself, I have to admit I believed the propaganda until I was well into my twenties, when I began to realize the truth of what you say. We are now burdened with a gigantic bureaucracy that meddles into every aspect of our lives and consumes somewhere between a third and half of every dollar we earn. I dont know who won the conflict you so eloquently talk about, but the good old US of A sure didnt.

I agree with you on the beaurocracy issue, but assuming that the North had lost the war, and the "State's rights" theory was implemented nationwide, do you guys think we could have counted on All of our 50 states (even CaliforniaIJ) to join in on the two World Wars that we helped to winIJ I don't know myself, just wondering what you guys think. Another way of looking at this too - look what happened to the former Soviet Union when it was split up. What once was a superpower is now a collection of "state_countries" that are very weak. Now I realize that Communism led to their current state of affairs, but would the USA be as strong as we are if it weren't for this overbearing gubbermint we have that makes decisions as a wholeIJ Methinks someone should create a software program that runs on a supercomputer that would play out what might have happened if the South had won, just out of curiousity. Tom Russell - you and I went through school at two way different times. I can honestly say that there was none of what you mentioned in my schooling. I'd say that we were taught that the war was about slavery, rather than the more correct issue of State's rights, but there was no mention about "evil rebels". There was no bias that I can remember. In fact, I always did believe that the war was more about slavery until I lived in Texas for about a year, and then watched the PBS series "The Cival War". I'd reccomend it to anyone, especially vstk! Tom langan

and I found out earlier this summer that it is isn't sufficient to pump 30 or 40 shots of the grease gun into each zerk once every couple of days. you need to pump grease into it and work the variable speed until grease gets all over the belt (then clean it off). If it hasn't been properly greased for a while it will hold about 2 tubes of grease.....otherwise you will end up with a costly repair down the road.

The outside zirk will get grease to torque sensing cams just like it always did but it must be greased. There are only a couple zirks that need daily grease and it is one. The outside zirk directly lubes the sliding sheave and then spills out onto cams. The inside zirk directly lubes cams in the event the outside hasn't been getting enough. Same exact situation when they added a second grease zirk to cylinder belt torque sensor in '94. If or when torque senser start expelling grease you can reduce to something more like 10 pumps and most of them in the outside zirk or the middle zirk if were talking cylinder varible. Take care

Finishing the subject: The Cival war was almost fought 6 years earlier in 1850's over economic issues. Folks were just not ready to fight then. The northern states were older and more industrialized, farms were more productive due to the type of crops, closer proximity to city markets and population centers and better soil. Southern states were less populated, grew tobacco and cotton which were in high demand in Europe and the Europeans paid more for commodities than did northern buyers due to the Rum, Cotton_Tobacco, and slave trade runs for the ships which were the PeterBuilts of the day. Speaking of slavery, the inexcusable reason for it was one of farm economics in the south. It was mostly for personal convenience and servitude in the North. That wealthy Northern cityfolk had slaves is a suprise to most as is the fact that the South also by law freed the slaves before the war ended. It was well into the war when lincoln did the emancipation proclamation thing. There were several anti slavery groups which were rightly making issues over slavery in the north and one in the south but NO political party took up the issue as a plank in the political platform. Slavery in the south was the product of the same problems faced by farmers today. They were not making a profit margin to sustain the family farm. They had to get more acres to service the debt. And they had big debt again to the surprise of many. As they cleared more land they had to get bigger Gleaners and AGCO tractors.... wait a minute, mechanical Gleaners and tractors did not exist back then..... guess what they had to have to farm more acres to pay the billsIJIJIJIJIJIJ As to why the war was foughtIJ The same as any war in history of homo sapiens; some old men in big buildings surrounded by big mouth braggarts spouted off and backed themselves in a verbal corner, then came out swinging when challenged by sending young men off to fight their battles. The young men fought to save their fellow soldiers and prove they were not cowards. They cursed the commanding officers on both sides as they died defending not a cause but the buddies to the left and right of him at the moment. What if the south had wonIJ Refer to the Hank Williams song. With mostly common ancestry and being an continent community the outcome on wars would have been similar to the Canada_USA relationship. With the exception of Federal Bureacracy the outcome of the War was the best for our future. It is a shame so many bright young men died; just think - one of the deceased's great great grandsons could have discoverd a cure for cancer......
