Combines A C on E III

I saw this the other day. Wish I had a pic. A 10KW generator, belt pulled off the PTO furnishing power to pull a 220 room AC mounted on top of a Belarus 4WD tractor cab. Guy said he had total of $400 invested and only problem was a little clearance height and if you left it running it would get the cab to about 40deg and frost up the windows. Not efficient as it goes but beats the heck out of a $2000 AC set up for a 300A farmer with a 4WD Belarus...Anyone game for a combine installationIJ

Well, I hope your post survives! I'm suprised that words like "tractor" don't activate the automatic censor by now. ;) The innovative minds of farmers never ceases to amaze me. That A_C setup is one to file away in the back of my mind. A person wouldn't need a very big unit to cool a cab and may be able to get away with a smaller genny then too. Northern tool sells belt drive gennys (5.5 KW) for about $400 I believe. There should be plenty of places a guy could drive it on a combine - you'd just need to make sure you had a fairly steady 3600 rpm input on the genny to produce steady power for the A_C unit. You'd need to probably drive it off the separator somewhere. The neighbors might scratch their heads seeing you drive by their place on the road with the separator running so you could cool your cab between fields! Might be just as easy to mount a self powered generator somewhere - then you could still use it in the off season. I have a 10 KW portable unit with a 9 hp Honda motor that will run 13 hours on a tank of gas (6.5 gallons) so that would be plenty long enough for a good day of harvesting. Go for it tbran. Sounds like an idea that will make you enough $$ to retire on.
