Combines A couple 1660 questions

Sounds pretty much normal to me. When you say"bump the throttle a bit" do you mean to about 1000rpm or soIJ At real low idle the 16 series machines just wont do anything hydraulicly. At about 1000-1100rpm there should be a responce. The lowering of the feeder is normal. If you get full foward speed and the machine is dead still when the handle is in neutral, everything should be good there. So how do you like this machine so farIJ Is there any comparisons you'd care to share between the green and redIJ

Jon, We made the same switch from Deere conventionsl to the 1660 (1989 model with IH Engine) and asked similar questions. 1) We have to have the RPM's above 1000 on ours for any reasonable hydraulic performance. 2) Our feederhouse is the same 3) Don't know about that one. I hope that yours is as good of a machine as ours has been. Chuck

Mine's the same way. You should be happy with your 1660, mine has over 5200 hours and is still going strong.

I ownede a 1660 for 10 years and it was as you described on the hyds, header, and hydrp. like OP said, if when the hydro lever is in the detent position the combine should not creep either way. You may want to check the cable at the stop on top of the hydro. The stop itself may be getting worn, I had to replace mine once. But reverse should definetly be much slower than forward. I set mine to run forward as fast as possible and still have enough reverse to be adequate.

Thanks Men for your replies. I will not fool with anything accept the hydro cable adjustment. Yes 1000 rpm or so is when the hydraulics become functional. The only real gripe I have with this combine is the feaderhouse rate of drop without a head on it. One thing that I think could have been built different is the ladder. That is a flimsy pos compared To what I am used to. I converted a John Deere corn head and like the combination. We purchased a 1020 22.5' platform witch is for sale. We now have a JD 925F to put on, and I look forward to next harvest to use it. The combine was a pleasure to run, I liked how easy and forgiving it was to set. I am very picky about my grain tank sample, and I don't like seeing grain on the ground. Yes I plugged it up once and I liked how I could back the concave off, remove the two pins on the concave hanger,and let it down. I can clean it out a lot easier than a Deere. I also liked the big access panels on the lH side. The RWA was a nice improvement over what we had. In general I am looking forward to a lot of good service with the 1660 combine pushing Deere heads Thank you Jon
