You are looking at a 105 hp vs and 120+ hp at about 14,000 n's. that is the negative- everything else is an improvement

I agree with Tim. The 8010 (and entire 8000 series AC's) were way ahead of their time and beats the old binder hands down in terms of cab, controls, tranny, ect. However, we had an 8010 for several years and can testify that they have got balls at 1700 rpm and up, but are doggy below that engine speed. They have a 300 cu in motor that won't produce the ponies unless the turbo is spun up. The 8030 with the 426 would be a better match to your IH. We traded a JD 4020 for the 8010. They couldn't hardly be more opposite. The 4020 would lug like crazy at low rpm but wouldn't hold at high engine speeds and the 8010 was opposite. Both have their advantages. Have a Genesis now that seems to be the best of both worlds. Good luck, Tom langan

Neighbor and I work together quite a bit. He has a 1086 and a 1486 and my 8030 and 8050 are rated about the same HP but there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between the AC 130-160 hp tractors over the IH 130-160 hp. We have pulled the same 3950 disk and the AC will pull it 1-2 mph faster with better fuel economy. My former 7020 would easily pull with the 1086. Neighbor is actually looking at orange for his next tractor after working with mine. As stated the AC 301cid is a dog under 1800rpms but hangs in longer when the turbo is up to speed. The 8030 is equal or better than the 1066, but either one can shut down a JD of the 130 hp range.

ill be pulling our 8 row IH planter and cutting hay and blowing haylage-silage with it, we have a 185 and that has such a quick governer, and almost works better then the 10. maybe a 8030 would work betterIJ

The 8010 would be more than sufficient for what you describe and you will notice quite an improvement in hp over the 185. The 8010 would be perfect for using on a blower as they hang right in there at rated engine speed. Also would be fine for cutting hay too. Only time the lack of lugging ability at low rpms bothered us much is when chisel plowing - had to rev the motor up before dropping the plow in the ground or she would bog down. No problems on a forage harvester, ect. For what it's worth, the 8010 uses the same motor as your 185 only turbo'd. Have a 180 and had a 185 for awhile too - they are great tractors and very snappy like you said! Tom langan

The 1486 International was factory rated at 145hp. A more fair comparison to your 160hp AC tractor would be the 1586.

We have several 1486s in this neighborhood and I don't know of a single one that is less than 160hp. Most have factory settings and are turning 160hp. A couple have been touched and turning closer to 180 hp. Similar to trying to find an 8050 that is at 152 hp, mine has factory settings and is turning 164 on the dyno. Cousin owns a 1586 that he bought new and it has never been below 175 hp from new with factory pump settings.
