Combines accelerater roll bearing failure

1000 hrsIJ You are lucky. We had them go out on a 98' model with about 400 hrs. on it. We were told they are on the inside, due to the need for increased strength in that area. (Hey, they are easy to put in at the factory!) Unfortunately, it is a real job to put them in. Really the whole right side of the combine has to be taken apart. It has been awhile since we had to do it, but I know I don't want to have to do it again. Good luck!

Normally these bearings last much longer. If flanges were tightened evenly while turning shaft they likely would still be perfect. I think the first time they had bearings on inside was distribution augers on old Ns. That was a terrific idea because they had it made so auger could be removed quickly and set on table to replace bearings. I wouldn't buy into the idea of supporting shaft better for they could of designed shaft longer. My only theory is they were going to make these rolls quick removeable also but stoped short before project was done. I have been after them to finish project but don't know when they will do. It's not so bad of a job now if you what your doing but why not have it a piece of cake like much of the rest of machine. We usually replace any exposed bearings when plate is off than if we do it right it will done for a long long time. Catch you later

We also had one go out on our old R-52 it is a real job to put in we talked to the combine machanic about it and he says they were put inside at the factory cause it was easy and fast he say's put the flanges on the outside like he does cause it faster and that little bite of change isn't going to hurt anything and it'll be easier next time. just what I was told Bob
