Combines accelerator gear teeth

either out of time or worn or the plate under the chopper impeller is broke and letting slugs go though. We always use the wide late R72 gears on all machines. These won't break or wear on a 52.

As him to check his timing, doesn't have to be off much to cause rubber roll sections to pinch together. Had a 50 a few years back do this, mechaninc replaced bearing and didn't check timing, 2 weeks later teeth started stripping.

We had a lOT of trouble with our acc. gear teeth right after we bought our R52 - had about 600 hours and the gears had been replaced with the wide ones by previous owner already. We couldn't figure out what the problem was - not only chipping teeth on acc gears, but gears on the right side as well that drive dist. auger. FINAllY, we took the plate off the right side that holds the idler gear between dist. auger and acc. roll shaft - previous owner had apparently taken this plate off or replaced it for whatever reason and he used machine bolts to bolt it back to the combine rather than carriage head bolts. This apparently allowed a slight misalignment in these gears and caused jumping_pinching_etc and caused acc. gear teeth to strip. Once we fixed everything EXACTlY like the parts book showed, our problem disappeared. Been running three seasons since then with no apparent wear at all on any of the gears. Hope this helps- Tom langan

I had the gears wear out on my R72.Did not find a direct cause, but put it down to belt vibration.Replaced all associated belts and am confident no further wear will occurr. Also replaced universal. This was at 1900 hours.

loads on a 72 are much higher. Wear seems to set in at about 2000 hours. The more soybeans the more the load and greater the wear. Accelerator drive roll bearings are the most common bearing replacement we do.

long time listener. First time caller. Have 94 R52. The gears on the acc rolls and on right side that drive dist auger used to howl so bad people used to stop me to tell me I had trouble. Replaced gears on acc rolls, were worn badly. Timing and bearings were fine. Still noisy. New gears started to wear. Such vibration hard bolts that hold fingers on dist auger were cracking and breaking. Replaced gears on right side with pulleys and belt to drive dist auger same speed. No problems in six or so years. Machine so quiet you can hardly hear it run when the heads are shut off. Hope this helps someone. I hyperized this year and love it.
