Any of you that have chronic problems with accel. roll gears on the left side chewing themselves up, take a look at the gears on the right-hand side. We had lots of trouble with the gears on both sides self-destructing the first year we had our '93 R52. We replaced a couple of sets before we found the problem. There is a plate that bolts to the side of the combine that holds the idler gear in place - the one that drives the dist. auger from the accel. rolls. The previous owner had that plate off for whatever reason and, when he replaced it, he used machine bolts rather than carriage bolts. It appeared to be positioned correctly, but for some reason, the machine bolts holding that plate on caused a problem and the gears were chewing themselves up. Once we replaced them with carriage bolts, our troubles disappeared and we ran that machine for quite a number of years and never had problems again. This was on an R52 - the 62_72 has a different setup.
