Combines accelerator rollers

Hi Silver tin tank! Had the full length stainless steel accelerator rolls for 3 seasons now. [ lousy seasons as you and I well know! ] I have some reservations about how good they are. For the most part they do a good job but I do not think they as good as the genuine bits. They are folded in one length and are easy to fit. I just send Rolf in to do it! The lugs are the same depth or total diameter as the rubber coated ones but as it is only a sheet of steel, there is a lot of clearance around and between the lugs. Due to this extra clearance, the material may not be accelerated down to the sieves at the same rate, leading to possible small increased losses from the upper air duct blast. Same effect as partially worn rubber components. I think they would be much better if each lug was about 5 to 6 mms longer. There is clearance in the housing for this. The base of the fold where it is bolted to the tubing is a little narrow so that equal lug timing between the two rollers for the full rotation cannot be achieved. I am also suspicious that they may damage crops like lentils, beans and etc with the fast moving and sharp steel edges of the lugs. A good crop with a lot of material going thru and acting as a cushion would definitely help in this regard. Wheat and etc is ok. I am thinking of bolting a thick strip of "linatex" rubber compound to each lug. This would be the equivalent of the Agco lug sets but at a fraction of the cost and the linatex giving possibly double the wear period of the Agco sets. As each folded set of lugs is full roller length, the full set from one roller would be quick and easy to remove with the rattle gun if you were harvesting beans, leaving the the other roller intact. Easy to fit. Price is right. Out lasts the rubber ones by 3 or 4 times plus. long term losses may be lower overall as the steel lug's performance will be consistent. ie. they don't wear like the rubber ones which start chucking it out the back. No mechanical failures yet. We have considered getting a set folded to our specs that are 5mms longer in each lug and folded fractionally wider at the base to try out but a major budget cutting exercise is currently underway. Cheers!
