Combines Accumulator question

I run an R42 with 816 flex head and I open my accumulator about halfway. If I don't, my header acts like a mexican jumpin-bean.

We run two 62's both with the new stlye header control systems. Always have the accum. at least 1_2 open, up and down lights flicker all day long but you never really feel the head move. The key with any style system is to have the raise and lower speeds set the same so they work together.

I always use the accumulator because I was afraid the constant jarring would loosen my eyeteeth. The key, as the others mentioned, is to get the raise and lower speeds set correctly which takes a lot of time and tinkering, then crack the valve just enough to soften the blows. Getting the accumulator to work with the AHHC for the corn head was more of a challenge and I gave up after spending considerable time monkeying around with it.

I looked at the accumulator valve on the R60 yesterday after making the original post and determined it is wide open. It has been 4-5 years since I arrived at the proper raise_lower speeds and I havent touched it since then. It is a pleasure to cut beans with the accumulator cushioning hydraulic jerks.

Always run valve open or closed. Mainly open for road travel and closed for field. After reading on this site about having valve half open I tried it. Works very well. I now open them up between 1_4 and 1_2 for field work and all the way for road travel.
