You should run it as wide as your crop will let you. By that I mean in corn and beans open it up all the way then shut it up slowly if you are throwing grain out on the spreader. Oats I have not combined but if it is going threw the combine with a lot of mog. Then shut it down. We raise milo and when cutting green leaves you need it on 1 or 2 to pull the grain threw and keep the sep. grate cleaned off. I am sure their will be someone that can tell you were it needs to be for oats.
