Combines advice power hop on 350hp 4w 305 articulated i know it s not a combine question

First, what kind and size of tiresIJ If radials you need weight and to let some air out.if bias ply, add some weight. I was around a lot of these when they were new and in larger numbers. The best performance was with all 8 tires 70 percent full........that will be to top of rims. If you are hesitant to weight this much fill inner to 70 percent and then try it.........i still like all 8 tiers weighted. vstk

Add fluid to the tire's, the tractor is to light on it's own. If you have problem's with adding the incorrect amount, talk to your local tire shop, they'll be able to tell you the right amount. Kurt

Run the front tires with 3-4 lb more air than the rear. You are after unequal spin. Then start adding weight to the rear first.

No wheel weights front or rear rightIJ Tractor dry has 70% front and 30%rear. To get 50-50 split on that 4WD you would need a bunch of down pressure on drawbar when pulling that tool. I would suggest to add as much weight to rear wheels as you can and leave front alone. We have tried tripleing front to equal out weight distribution or should I say compaction but than it just seems to keep breaking something or another with tires so wide. Your likely going to need max air in front for the weight and tires you have (approx. 21000 lbs.). I would run same air in rear also after getting it weighted with as much fluid as possible and see how it pulls. Wheel weights are prefered. I'm sure rear end will get weight transfer when pulling so that is why I'm thinking you will be close to same pressure as front and be OK. I've always wondered why Allis had weight split like this and believe it is for the heavy three point work. We have very few that have ever used the three point so I've been tempted to move front axle ahead. If that works to get power hop out you can start leting down air for less compaction. How do you come up with 350HPIJ Might want to drop down a gear or two to prevent hop rather than use up to much excess power. That poor old tractor may be thinking partial retirement buy know. The tire pressures should be slightly higher in rear tires than front. When weighting it if you are looking for weight split, dont guess, use scale at elevator. The ideal split is between 60-40 and 55-45. The heavier being the front. the harder you pull the closer to 60-40 as it will make a greater shift..Dont try to weight to 50-50 it will get there on its own when pulling.....You will need about 100 lbs per horse power, that tractor should weigh at least 30,000 after weighted.....VSTK

thanks for all the feedback and comments. It's good to know the problem is correctable. Now just a matter of doing it. The tires are 20.8-38 radials. All 8 are new. Not many 4wds in my area so my local tire shop says yeah, fluid might help. Well I need a more definite answer than that and you guys provided that. The only question is what pressure should be in the front insides with no fluidIJ and what pressure on the rear insides with fluidIJ oh...I rounded the hp a bit, it actually dynoed at 330hp.

The 4W-305 has a shipping weight of 27000 lbs. That is without duals or 3 pt. Add another 1000 pounds in fuel. Wish I had one of these for my operation. Steve

My 4w 305 has the same tire's as you do, This is how my tire guy set it up. He put fluid in all the tire's ( 8 ),lowered the air pressure to 6 to 8 psi, this is what the factory rep told him to do. The tractor weigh's in at all most 40,000 lbs. The weigh front to back is 55_40 as to the size of deep tiller and depth. I'm pulling 36ft at 5 mph with no power hop. Hope this help's you some more. Your going to be about 5000lbs per tire up front so you will be running very close to max air for the ply you have. You will be very close to 70-30 split with what you have now if there isn't a bunch of wheel weights installed. I don't think filling all rear wheels to 70ish percent will get you to 60-40 so you still have room for weight transfer to rear under power. Rear end will weigh about 10000lbs the way it is so that is just 2500lbs per tire. With only 2500lbs per tire the book would call for minimum tire pressure. I would not run minimum for I know there will be a certain extent of weight transfer. I would not take weight added as liquid to much into consideration for that weight is mostly applied directly threw rubber to ground not to axle weight. I would watch tire give under power and try compare front to rear under power in normal going to see if front and rear squat seam the same. My best guess is rear pressure will be about half way between minimum and maximum. PTO HP should be 250 so if you have what you say and are tring to use it you may need even more weight or rubber on the ground. let us know how you come out.
