Combines AFS Help

To map properly you will need a GPS signal with differential correction, I do not know if a Garmin handheld has this ability. The GPS data must be produced in the proper data string (format) in order for the monitor to be able to store and backup the data on the card and be useable for the desktop software to read it correctly. You will also need at least a 1MG_16MG data card depending on the version_style of monitor in the combine. Good luck

DONOT use a datya card bigger than 16mg. The monitor does not have enough power to manage anything larger and will "lose" the files. Been there, done that, lost all the info on 300 acs using a 32 mg card :~(. Also be sure to download all the information every night. That way if something does happen you won't lose more than a day's info. The first AFS monitors were the "black boxes" from Agleader. An '01 machine should have the gray "touch screen". BTW, you will need special software to download the info from the datya card. CIH's older software was pretty primitive and user unfriendly. Their new software was written by Agleader and is suppose to be much better. I would recomend buying from a Agleader dealer, you will save some money. last time I checked CIH wanted around $800 and Agleader $600 for the same software.

You can use a garmin on that monitor. I've used the Garmin 17 and Street Pilots. The plug to connect is under the cover for the gear shift. You will need to know the pin out and can make a connecting cable with parts from a Radio Shack. If you need help my e-mail is ellisce@missouri.edu. And yes a 32mb card is a large as you can go. They are getting hard to find.

Thanks Guys for that info!! The garmin we have has the exteral serial port lead and we have had it working into our pf3000 that we have on our combine so hopefully it will do the job in the Case unit. I'm not sure which unit his combine has, ie the pf2000 or the touch screen. Will be in touch soon and hopefully will sort that out quickly. He was concerned about having to upgrade_purchase software for it. But I assume all he was talking about was the software to read it in the computer, which we already have. Thanks for the tip on the memory card. I was going to use a 32mb card, but now will go back to the 16mb. Now all I have to find is the adaptor card to put my cf card into, they are getting pretty rare to find!!

Thanks Charlie, As I said below, the garmin Xl12 that we have has a serial out lead that we got for it which has a male end from memory. Will that plug into the AFS. The plug you talk about, which type of AFS unit is that forIJ The older type or the newer touch screen modelIJ Cheers Bundy

This is for the touch screen. They are using the same technology. An 8010 would be a different story. The plug should be a 5 pin flat plug, either under the cover around the gear shift or inside the access door outside the right side of the cab. Don't remember exactly what year they changed location. I bought Ag leader cable part no. 2000829. This converts from the flat plug to a 9 pin serial for you to plug your receiver into. For memory cards and readers I've bought from this place. http:__www.computermemorystore.com_ Any questions my number is 636-795-5378.
