We have a 9190 and we seem to go through alternators about 1-2 a year. I dont know why but it is a pain in the butt. I do not know what the answers is to the problem. Brent

The alt spins backwards on the 9190. If you get a reman one you have to make sure that you use your old fan back on it to move the air. Most reman alt have the fan going the wrong way. I still change alt in my 9190's every few years. I think they may be spinning them to fast. I wonder if you could change pully size to slow them downIJ But then the tach would be off. Ilnh

The problem that fails alternators is running at max output. This overheats the voltage regulator, diodes and everything else. A shorted battery, shorted starter solinoid, loose connection on the wire from the alt to the starter, starter to the batt or bad battery connection, or bad ground will all cause the alt to sense that it is not doing its job and thus putting out more and more. Check out each battery separate, then run a n 12 wire from the alt to the pos terminal in the battery. This sometimes cures wierd things that go on in a system and will give the alt a tru reading and maybe shut down the max charge. Also make sure each system is not over using the amps necessary, shuch as AC system - this should used no more than 15 amps. - a comp clutch starting to go bad will pull up to 20 amps before it finally pops the fuse. Also check the power stud that goes into the cab. These get loose and loose the ability to convey the necessary amperage. Good luck,,,

New 105amp Delcos were great if kept clean. After they plug up and overheat you have trouble. I don't know of any decent rebuilts. We allways rebuild our own. We had allways used Agco replacement parts thinking they were genuine. We had a spell of bad rectifier bridges and then they were good and then got worse again. lately it has been bad brusholder. Brush holder gets hot and plastic melts and brushes fall out. Problems are way less if the guy has put batterys on a charger when getting alternator repaired. Problem got so bad we had to unhook all but one battery and then hook others up at half day intervals. Were working on the fix right now for we found out it isn't genuine Delco in the Agco box. Were working hard at staying with Delco for they have been very good until we get some cheap aftermarket parts in them. Don't know of any that are easier to repair. Oh yea and like the other guy says you need the right fan for the 9170, 9190,9670,9690. I had some guys from outside the area have the same nightmare with rebuilt alternators and many had the wrong blade on them as well. Good luck
