We tried one row with a pixall and not impressed with it at all. It doesnt have much of a spiral at all on them and the flutes are interlocked just as much as the factory rolls, I wouldnt spend the money there. Agco just needs to build a chopping head and also redesign the snapping rolls so they have move distance between them.
i've ran in fields with similar stalk pressure with my hugger head. my hugger chews up stalks better than the neighbors drago and geringholf, maybe theirs aren't set right.
The reason that the snapping rolls are interlocked as much as they are is so they crimp the stalk as it runs thru the rolls. This is by design so they chop when in the field. I have a relation with the 3000 hugger head, and the wedge kit from agco installed. His fields look like he ran a chopping head and the wedge kit makes the remainder of the standing stalk less than 4 inches tall. If you want to run them wide to do the same job as a deere or a New Idea Pull Picker go back to the black adjustable head and set the snapping rolls so you can see light between the blades.
Soy boy are you talking about the N series type of cornhead aka N830IJ I am on twinrow and I think if I could get the stalks to enter the snapping rolls better I could increase my ground speed. Did know the stalk rolls were adjustable on those older heads.
Are the twin rows more difficult to get pulled into the head; requires slower, ground speed, more ear drop, etc.IJ Just curious, have looked at that option. Thanks.
You may try to adjust the gathering chains so the teeth "hang" over the stripper plates more to help bring the twin rows into the snapping rolls. Also the spiral points on the ends of the rolls may be worn down. With 30" rows the stalks will push each other between the stripper plates. With Twins the spiral needs to do more augering to get the stalks to the blades this will in turn wear the spiral points faster. When they come from the factory they have a corner on both sides of the spiral, after running a few thousand acres the corner will wear down and they do not "auger" as well.
yeah, by the end of harvest our spirals have gotten pretty worn and need to be replaced. The pixalls have very little spiral on them from new and the row we tried didnt work well with twin row at all.
