Combines AGCO draper vs compitition

I have two that i bought new in 99 i really like them. have not tried other brands so no comparison there. but would not go back to an auger head.

I guess I am a little behind the times IJ What is a draper head and what is it used for IJ

It's like a grain swather head in place of an auger header on the combine. For picture go to the Agco site http:__agcocorp.com_home.asp and click on North America on the left; then click on Massey Ferguson; then combine headers toward the bottom of the column. There is a picture below the corn head. Couldn't see one on the Gleaner page.

Here is a link the the Honeybee web site. They have many pictures of draper headers and reasons for using them. It is interesting to note that the first Massey Harris self propelled combines that came out in the early 40's had draper headers as did many of the old pull type combines. However the old canvas drapers were a maintenance headache and every one jumped at auger headers to cut down the headaches. They have solved those problems with the new draper headers designs.

Rented a C-62 last summer-good machine-had a 25' Agco draper header. What a over engineered piece of junk. Did not feed if you pushed the machine to capacity. local dealer (Farm Equipment Head- quarters) sells lots of McDons-everybody loves them. They agreed with me about the engineering thing. From what I've seen of the Honeybees they might be better than the McDons-at least might be simpler. The only good thing on the Agco was the hydraulic sickle drive.
