Combines AGCO strikes again

I currently work for a manufacturer that 5 years ago cut off numerous smaller accounts because they said it was to expensive to maintain their accounts and they were not large enough to buy direct from the manufacturer. 4 years later when times were tough they wished they had them back and would never admit that it was really a mistake. At the time of the account closings I asked a few bosses just under the top that believed in me "Take your two hands and cut off a thumb on one and a pinky on the other, will you get as much work doneIJ" They didnt know how to answer me until 5 years later. They have agreed it was a mistake, since then those customers went elsewhere and we can't buy their business. Hope someone at Agco gets paid to read this forum and pay attention, in this world you cannot have to many customers no matter the size... Dealers are customers and promoters and take as much risk as the manufacturer.. My 2 cents of experience...

There trying there darndst to get rid of us Gleaner guys. I will laugh my a$$ off when all they have left is there Massey guys. What 2 % of the market share. IG

This dealer only sold Gleaner combines not Agco tractorsIJI bet there is more to this story.

Just saw a sale bill for the delaer at laPlace Il. Is that it. If not they are losing two. I think AGCO wants to sell equipment, but not have to deal with parts and service. Fortunatly we still have one Gleaner dealer within 25 miles to get parts from. If he ever goes I will go with him.

Mike, The dealer in laPlace,never did rebuild from a fire. He sold out to Kuhn's. There salesmen and some of there mechanics work for Kuhn's now. I think Allen(the owner) now works for AGCO. IG

Westbrook Ag Power. Maybe there is more to the story, but the fact remains we lost a very good Gleaner dealer.

I have never understood the reasoning behind closing dealers. Even if they are small they are still selling equipment, parts and service and keeping the brand out in front of the farmer. If you want a farmer to switch brands closing a dealer will be the best way to get it done. A few years ago I read where farmers were willing to drive up to 100 miles to get parts and service. I'd like to know who they surveyedIJ The closser the dealer the better for me. I think that is especially true now with the cost of fuel to drive for parts and weather or not you will need service done in a dealers shop. If you have a Deere dealer in town and a Gleaner dealer 40 miles away it's hard to buy a Gleaner even though they are better. Besides a small dealer will often give much better more personal service than a large dealer. Just my 2 cents.

He had an engineering degree.Put in application with AGCO and got the job.I believe he went to Hesston.
