That tube is the temperature sensor to tell the compressor when to cut out. I think you could do serious harm to your system running it with the sensor bulb_tube off. As far as patching goes, I believe the tube is filled with gas, so if it is off, your outta luck. Hope this helps! (yeah, right when it's 90 above outside) Good luck!

you can use a jumper wire to engage the clutch but make sure to turn it off and on when light comes on
