Not sure what aircond. compressor is on this combine, but if the pulley is what won't turn then just replacing the bearing that the pulley turns on sometimes will solve the problem. Compressor may be ok.
I,m curious what brand of compressor they put on your combines. I worked on a 97 R-62 A_C and was sure surprised to see an old 2 cylinder tecumseh_york style on it. There is just to much vibration caused by those old 2 bangers. I don't know what you mean when you say that the clutch locked upIJ I suppose that you mean that the compressor was running continuously though I have never seen a A_C clutch get so packed with dirt that it can't release. If anything, I would think it would not be able to engage because of dirt. I would suggest that changing the compressor mount would be easier than changing shroud or pulley spacing if you want to use the new R-62's compressor.
The compressors that were on the machines used to be York style like what they all have. We had them changed over to the Sanden compressors which is what the 99 and newer machines have now.
Be careful Aussie-n!!! 2rotorsrule spends alot of time in EVERY forum here, primarily to boast the "goodness of New Holland" and the "evils of Deere"! However, I will warn you that you're messin' with a 20 year old who posesses the knowledge of a vetran combine operator! PROCEED CAUTIOUSlY and carry a keen sense of humour!
Ah! Yes HE does spend a fair bit of time on all sites doesn`t He !IJ And Who would I be to question His knowledge with my limited experiece of 33yrs on planet earth 18yrs piloting all colours on two continents.IJ Silly me!!BUT the mature young chappie does seem to have set himself some high personal goals to achieve by the time he gets to my age....Keep us informed of your progress 2rotorsrule!
This is true, but I guess he's keen and interested in farming and combines, which isn't a bad quality to have, either! let's face it, farming is posessing less appeal every year!
Interesting about your clutch. Its good to know that there are problems with other brands of compressors especially since your problem could easily cause a fire. It surprises me that there would be enough trash to cause problems in the radiator air stream since it must pass through the rotary screen. My opinion is that techumseh compressors would work good if they would put some kind of a flywheel on the pulley assembly. Watch the belt whip when the compressor is pumping. Old Chysler cars had heavy cast pulleys on them and I have used them to reduce the "Vibes" on farm equipment. I agree that leaks on the front seal and_or O-ring_gasket was not enough reason to change brands especially with relatively cheap refrigerants like 134a. I think the real reason Gleaner went away from the tecumseh style is because of bearing and seal failure caused by the "vibes".
