Combines air deflector or cross flow

Gordon, If you had any model other than a 1660, I would say to definitely get the air deflector first. However, as Im sure you read the messages around the end of December, it seems that Nelsoncat and Potsdam Boy had trouble with grain in the fan using the air deflector AND the crossflow. The question is, would that have happened if they had still had the original fanIJ I have no idea, but my guess is that the original fan would have worked fine with the deflector. So, since you get a money-back guarantee with the deflector anyway, I would suggest going with it first. If you can part with another $100, I would order the Hillco fan kit from Gorden. I suspect that combination would do a much better job in wheat with your setup than the crossflow fan would. Maybe we can get some input from some 1660 owners on thisIJ Another thing to consider is that Marvin Gorden is working on a modification to the cleaning system that shows a lot of promise, based on the pictures he posted. As far as I know, the details have not been released yet on this modification, but I think he was planning to have something available in early 2002. It would probably be worth an e-mail to Marvin and a call to Phil at Future Farming Solutions. They are both very knowledgeable about these machines. Best of luck, Mike

I installed a Hillco kit on my 1440 that I purchased from Marv. It makes a big improvement in air flow by opening the ends to let more air come into the fan.
