What machineIJ The warning light on my M2 was overactive to say the least. Unfortunately, I sold the machine before recognizing the problem and determining the cause. Tom in MN
Not sure, but the last 5 seasons that I have replaced the air filter in my N6, the air light comes on immediately. I personally think that the filters are made tighter than they use to be and this is causing the air sensor to go off. The N6 didn't use to go off, and I have taken the sensor out and cleaned it carefully.
Your precleaner might be full of crud and not doing its job. Take it off and pound it, shake it, blow through it, swear at it, ect, and see how much stuff you get out. This is assuming that your filter is plugged already.... Good luck, Tom langan
Tom, Where is the precleaner on my 82 N6IJ I have two filters (inner and outer) and one aspirator on the exhaust. I haven't seen a precleaner on a Gleaner since my 76 F. Is this a WI attachmentIJ We only tend to get aspirators here in IA, even the new machines. Even the salvage yard Gleaners of the 2 series of the last 70s on are aspirated. I hated the pre-cleaner on the F, 3 to 4 times a day dump in soybeans. Knew when it was full, it would start to back off on hills with the 2800. Stop, clean the pre-cleaner and take the filter out and tap it several time until the end of the day to get to the compressor for a good cleaning. Aspirators on the M2 and N6 are a once a day cleaning of the filters and never back off.
I'm talking about the thingy above the air cleaner housing with a bunch of twirly doohickeys inside that spin the incoming air to preclean it. It probably has a hose attached that goes to the exhaust. Apparently these things can get plugged up with gunk and become less effective. Tom l.
tom i learned something from my shop last week u can pop the little thingys out of the precleaner with a 1_2" rachet extention by bumping in the center of the shotgun shells on the opposite end of the twirlies till they pop out of each other then clean out the housing and reenstall with needlenose pliers and a twistting action till they snap together, works pretty easy once you get the hang of it.and can really get it lean without cutting a hole in it and making a patch . fyi my mechanics figured it out
I guess I will have to do some more investigating. The steel hose on my N6 and the 2 8000 series tractors are attached directly to the air filter housing. The air filter housing seem to be built for the aspirator. The aspirator part of the air cleaner is an intrigal part of the filter housing that sits between the filters and the engine hood on the N6 with the fine mesh screen box just behind the exhaust stack.
John - I'm linking to the mod site page with a pic of the type of precleaner I'm talking about (top pic). The part with the two hoses attached is the precleaner_aspirator. This mod has two hoses and can be done with the Deutz V8 engines - one hose to each exhaust stack - to increase precleaner effectivness. Take a look and see if this is what your machine has...
