Combines Altendorf lawsuit SnowjobIJIJ

Just talked to a person today who talked to Elmer himself. Said that the STS's are complete junk. All of what you have heard is accurate: lost business, lawsuit etc..Maybe Deere's bounty program on competitive combines will end up hurting them after all. I know it sure has made some of my neighbors who are long time customers mad. However, despite making them mad I sure that the next time they need a combine they will pay "extra" to get it.

About 9 days before the current Altendorf threads surfaced on the Deere board, this same subject came up on the Deere board. Someone from the Altendorf family replied and flatly denied the lawsuit. The individual did not comment on whether the STSs had performance problems or if they lost a large acreage contract. As soon as that reply was posted, the rumored thread and the 3 replies were deleted. Mystery continues.....

I'm a small time stockholder in Deere, but I get all the company news and updates on problems, and thus far we've heard of a little unhappiness with the new combines, but zilch about a lawsuit. Surely the company would let it's shareholders know. On another note, I know there could be a recall on 4000 series tractors due to problems with the axles and weaknesses in the loader frames.

I appreciate the input Row. But if anyone would get a snowjob from the company, it would be the stockholders. I tend to think it works that way for all the companies. At least you are getting some input - I am also a small-time stockholder in AGCO, and I mean REAllY small-time. Bought five shares about a year and a half ago. Pays 1 cent dividends each quarter - I get a 5 cent check four times each year that costs them 33 cents each to mail out!! I wish they would just keep the nickel!

Your point is very valid, Tom, and one may never know the total truth. However, I WASN'T "talking to someone who was talking to someone who was talkin to Altendorf", I was talking to the Altendorfs, and they spoke very highly of their recent aquisition of (yes) 22 Deere STS's. They admitted some difficulties to set-up at the start, and they feel this is where the rumours started. I didn't ask about there alleged loss of 30,000 acres; - it was none of my business. I did, however, ask about an alleged lawsuit, and they flatly denied it was even considered. The content of this reply, Tom, isn't directed to you but to another on this board who seems to frequently (unintentionallyIJ) misstate some facts. The fact is, Altendorfs are quite happy! Myself, I'm not convinced the STS is the "cure-all" for the combine capacity woes, but many do!

Why don't you call Altendorfs yourself to get the "true" pictureIJ I don't have the number handy, but their located in Minto, and their telephone number is listed under Altendorf Trucking or Altendorf Transport!

Actually, I convinced..., er..., sold my neighbor on the idea of purchasing an R42 about a year ago. He's had pretty good luck so far!

Thank you! I'd probably be getting only three cents each time rather than five if you hadn't sold him on that 42!!
