Probably just bad o-rings or pin holed sleeves on 426. I'd rebuild it. If you go looking for a junk yard engine it may not be much better internally at all, and as of right now I still don't know just what a complete Cummins changeover kit would cost.

I have on one engine getting water in oil,used 2 bottles of liquid bars leak and it worked but have no plans to overhaul engine when it goes bad for other reasons. The bars leak will settle and harden around the sleeves making them hard to remove.Once out a file will be needed to remove the stuff before putting in new sleeves.

things happen, i hope you will enjoy someone bads fortunes worse, bought a new 2388 put hopper extensions on, told his hired men he would put in shop, hired man decided to put it away for him, backed in shop ran into a header bent both spreaders bent unloading auger, must have heard commotion turned wheel poked header through shop and damaged the straight head, i suppose that wouldn,t be warranty work, thought you might need a laugh, bet the owner was a tad upset, scott

After dropping the hydro, we did indeed find out that it was quite ill, and when we exchanged for a rebuilt, one of the tech's at the shop looked into the plumbing holes of our old one and said "Oh goody". I'm not a hydro tech, but I understand that it can be the "swash plate" that produces all the junk. Good news is that the new one is working well, and the '62 is happily eating up 140+ bu_acre oats!
