Combines Any mods for auger in a 12 row head

We've done just what you are thinking and have had good results. Both the Hugger and the 700_800 heads have more than enough flighting. First thing we do is remove flighting extensions on grain tables and on Huggers taper flighting at about 30 degree decline on cross auger beginning at edges of feeder housing on both sides.

We cut off about 8" of flight on each side of the hanger and put a Maywes poly paddle on each side and it feeds like a dream. The hanger is a nightmare as is if you get in down corn or vines. In fact the local tech guy was out working on our yield monitor and he saw the paddles. He said they had tried that but used steel and had trouble throwing ears out of the head. The Maywes paddle is stiff rubber with a poly finger on it. It will throw ears out if you run the head fast and slow ground speed, but we usually run it slow since we have our 12 row on a 62. 4mph is usually tops even in dryer corn.

Thanks for the information. I got the torch out this morning and started cutting. I will look into the paddles as it does seem to need somthing to push stuff in. Now I just wish I had some more corn to pick as I am done for the year and will have to wait till next year to try it out. Kurt

If you go with the paddles weld 2 pieces of heavy angle on the auger the full width of each paddle and throw Maywes' brackets in the trash. Bolt the paddles to the angle and go. Also, the paddles need to be trimmed as they are were too tall and hit when they rotated. We cut some of the finger off so it would clear, if I was doing it again I would leave the finger alone and trim the paddle instead even though new holes would need to be drilled in the paddle. Not sure if it would make a difference, but just a thought.
