Combines Anyone ever see a modification like thisIJ

Never seen one on a R series,looks like a super snoot off the old picker tractors.Seem to remember some of the old combines having them,before the rotary screens were standard.That combine must be a rock crusher by the looks of the feeder house bar.

Yea I talked to them guys last fall. I was talking to someone at Gleaner and they told me about them guys. I had a pair of R50s that always run together and crops included edible beans. These machines running in each other dust was very hard on the Deutz blower blades. The vucanic dust was just as hard on blades so them guys come up with that plan and stretched the life of blades by something over three times. I fixed up one of them R50s in a similiar manner. Time will tell on the wear. As you can see that dealer does it to the liquid machines also for the radiator stays clean. I don't know if that vulcanic dust is hard on radiators also. If not I think I would remove the box and adjust up or update screen to work properly. This may be the clearcut thing for the guys in earlier post about l2 or rotary to get rid of soybean fuzz in air cooled machines. Again I would work at sealing intake or adjusting up rotary screen first. Thanks for finding that photo for they just described what they had done when I called they.

Installed a near identical vertical radiator fan intake on our N7 in about 1992. Dust from chickpeas would get thru the radiator, stick on the exhaust manifold, light up, fall off, and could get a good line of fires going down the paddock behind the combine. Very exciting! Vertical intake duct practically cured the problem. Got the idea from a neighbour who put one on his IH to prevent the same fire problem. Needs to be the same height as the tank to get clean air. All colors had the same problem.
