A couple of years ago turrets were the rage; now we seldom hear anything about them. Did some folks decide they didnt need the extra heightIJ Tom in MN

I think once people found out where they came from and the assocciated problems they did not buy them. They are from an old MASSEY COMBINE with open gears and right angle gear box trouble. Besides they look like they are glued on the side of the combine. If Gleaner would have made one that holds up, has fast unloading and looks like was designed into the machine there would be more around.

well, i hate to tell u this, but i think the turret is stronger and better built than other ones. we have only had trouble with ours once, that was wiht the bolt in that holds the gear box. took an hour to fix. We just undone the bolts and lifted the top auger off with our tracto and loader. It also doesn't have all that clanning noise that the old ones have and no u-joints to gease. and it is suported at the top so not all the weight is right down on that elbo. Maybe we just got the good apple of the bunch but we will never go back to the old ones.

We had an early '98 R62 with the turret. Just traded for a new one with a turret. Never had a single problem with turret on old machine. It had over 1100 hrs on it when traded.
