Combines are cage retarder fingers an alternative to rasp barsIJ

Best I can remember the fingers were power robbers and don't remember if they did any good. You can install a rasp bar with out removing the cylinder. Just remove the cleanout door on cylinder bearing plate and reach in from there. I'm unsure what combine you are talking about and it would make a difference what helicals you have or if they are all installed. If you have no helicals on the belly you can install a 30" piece of rasp bar. If you have all the helicals in the belly of a P1 you could fasten short rasp bars inbetween the helicals. Whatever you do just be sure to fasten in well. Good luck.

Some have used the F2 concave rasp bar and half the rasps are forward and half reverse. I have installed flat rasp bar with out the rolled over leading edge that came from very old cylinder designs. Some have took P1 bars and cut or modified leading edge to get it to fit flat against the cage. I have installed both forward rasp (same angle as helical) and reverse. One machine I put the forward in and he said rotor loss went down and then I put reverse rasp in and he said rotor loss was less yet. I would fasten the rasp bar as close as possible to the cage door seam for maximum strength. I would secure bar every approx. 6". I try to mention secure in well from time to time to help prevent someone from overlooking the importance as securing it to stay. It's an awfull thought to think what could take place if something was left lose. Good luck.
