I think chaffer sieve refers to the top sieve. My old 1440 IH had variable speed fan. It was the old paddle wheel type. Ran as fast as it could go and still did not get enough air flow.

I don't know this for sure, but I always thought Gleaner was the only make to use a choke instead of variable speed fan. Gleaner's air speed on the shoe is constant, and we adjust volume, while they adjust both with a variable speed. CorrectIJ Happy Holidays everyone! Tom langan

If I understand correctly, that particular machine would have more than 1 sieve plus a chaffer. Is that correctIJ I know Claas combines have several sieves.

So are 90 degree gearboxes on the PTO engine output, PTO shafts through the hoppers, auger beds, etc - but that doesn't stop them from buiding them that way!
