personally we attach with bolts and drill out every other one to a 5_16 for piece of mind - when we have time. Using plated 1_2"length with locknuts or 3_4" with lock washers looks neat. Plenty of clearance inside. Some have square punched the hole for 1_4" carriage hd bolts. I also had one customer who didn't have a riveting machine who heated the rivets red and then banged them in - and came up to show me the blisters on the fingertips... and wanted to know how we got them in.. when I told him we didn't use rivets he kind of looked at his fingers and mumbled something....

we have used the same bolts that are used in the sickle to hold on the sections, Never had a problem yet.

I went to our local machine shop. He has a rivi gun just like the factory job. looks great and works great.
