2 reasons why smaller machines are worth more here: 1.) Road width. Some places you have to go to farm, the bridges won't let something bigger than an F2 without heads on it through. For this same reason, many farmers still run 4RN planters because they can't squeeze anything bigger through. That's also why 10' no-till drills with inboard wheels are in demand 2.) Odd-shaped, 1-5 acre fields that are just a pain in the butt to horse around a big combine in. I've also noticed the smaller combines seem to be kept in nicer shape than the bigger ones that come up for sale. The big ones tend to be hammered on (usually because the farms that run l3 or N7-size machines use hired operators, and the F2 is likely to have been owner-operated),so that makes a difference on price, too. There is very little call for custom combining around here. Then there's the storage space issue. You can't leave a combine outside in New Jersey for any length of time and expect it to work. My K2 takes up half the space of an l2. The money I saved by buying the l2 over the K2 would quickly be eaten up by the taxes I'd get hammered with on the bigger shed I'd need for the l2.
