We bought a macdon 972 header and 872 adapter last year. We only ran it in wheat. I was very impressed with the way it worked in five bushel to sixty bushel wheat. It is very clean and well built in my opinion. I cut 350 acres of dryland wheat making 25 bushel and less at 6.8 mph. When I tried to cut in 3rd gear, the sickel started slobbering at 7.2 mph. It slides on the ground very nice on beds or flat ground. You can adjust springs under the adapter to carry the weight of the header, making the header ride lightly on the ground. Ours is a thirty foot with two piece pickup reel, (no guage wheels). At first I was disappionted it had the two piece reel, but now I like it because it dose not carry as much weight on the end of the header. That flip over action seems to flip big weeds right over the back of the header at high speeds. It almost makes cutting sorry wheat enjoyable.
