Combines australian separator grate

The grate was developed by a Gleaner agent about 8 or 9 years ago in the Australian state of "South Australia". Barley losses were very high out of the Gleaner rotors and others, under some harvesting conditions and this adjustable grate was developed to help reduce those losses. Gleaner has stayed with the adjustable grate so there has to be some pretty good advantages in being able to fine tune to reduce rotor losses in some but not neccessarily all situations. Cheers!

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about what this kit is. it is standard cage material that bolts over the sep grate. the idea being that the material rolls up grain in the fodder as it travels over the grate. this is especially true in milo. another problem is that the p3 is just too agressive for some conditions. i think i would like a p3 cage without a sep grate so i could add another helicalor two. i have seen it work well in some conditions. if you are wanting to try one i know where one is for a good price. vstk

I found out about the Aussie cover kit in '97. We installed our first one to help save more barley. The guy just wasn't totally satisfied no matter what we did until we installed cover kit. We had as many as eight reverse bars installed. All the bars did is take power. We've learned lots since then. We have taken some covers off now in favor of the rotor sweeps in combination with adjustable high wide wire seperator grates or removed wires from low narrow wire seperator grates. To kind of duplicate the smoother surface for material to flow accross we have welded short pieces of removed wires onto the existing wires on some machines. With the adjustable seperator grates you still have the option of pulling it up tight to cylinder bars. If the cage to cylinder bar clearance is the secret you can surely shim bars closer to cage but that will likely break more cobs in corn. Might have to try that sometime also. Take care
