Combines Auto header on 1660 not working

The way Ive done it is to disengage the cable from the pot, then with the machine running drop the head as if youre putting it into the float position. You can then tun the arm on the pot until the head moves neither up or down. Thats the position you want it to be in. Now youll have to rotate the pot on the machine until you can get the cable back on it. When youre done I think youll find that the wiring harness on it points back towards you and slightly upwards. Hope this helps

Check the ground on the Feeder House that controls the Automatic Header Height Controls. We had the same problem, and found this to be the problem. Track the wires under the cab, do a continuity test and make sure everything is clean and tight. This might be your problem. Good luck.

Two items to check for: 1. Check on the right side of the header under the black cover if the spring is pulling up the indicator. This is attached to the "feelers". 2. You may want to replace the cable that is attached to the pot. with this "Header Height Kit" part number = 434092 A4E you will also need a short Harness adapter part number = 874 12210. I have also noticed that sometimes with the dial in the cab at about the 3 o'clock position or higher the header may not lower when you press the switch. I dial it down to 12 o'clock and it lowers. Hope this helps you. Jack in Minnesota

You said that the 1020 is a newer model. It could have the wrong potmeter on it that is meant for the 21-23 series combines. If it is a small round clear plastic one it's wrong.
