Combines Balanced augers

Neighbor had his fill auger and unloading auger balanced on his R-72,really made the machine quiet.Has the turrent unload.

I have been working on the same problem, we broke the cross auger in the bottom of our hopper last fall and we rebuilt the auger with new super edge flighting and balanced it. The auger runs nice and true and its so smooth you can't hardly tell its running. We also had one of our 800 series flex heads that always ran rough and narrowed it down to the auger. It was so far out of balance that it took 11 pounds of weight to balance it out. We just spun balanced the head on the header trailer with our 1_2 inch air drill. Before we did anything to the auger the head was jumping all over the place on the trailer. Got the weights on the auger and it doesn't even move. Tried it on the combine and it runs smoother than it ever has since it was new.

I replaced the hopper fill auger with a new agco one. It shook so bad that it was bending the mount brackets. Also you could feel it very easily in the cab till the bin fills up to dampen the shake. Dealer that I got it from thought I was nuts. loftness told me that augers could not be balanced. It was not warped or bent. Finaly took it back and got another new one. Runs much smoother. Since then I talked to another dealer that has replaced one or two on new combines for the same reason.

What procedure and setup are you using to balance these augersIJ Are you just adding weight to the loose auger until it sits still in any positionIJ How are you dividing up the weight across the augerIJ Are all augers heavy enough to use this procedure onIJ Some of many questions. What is super edge flightingIJ

I know it would be more pricey but less costly than Gleaner, and that would be a new auger from aftermarket from someone like loewen, who does balance the unloading augers, and I think also available with superedge. They also sell flighting only, but you would have to balance yourself then.

I'm glad you mentioned that. The auger that is in the machine now has shaken quite badly since we bought the machine (used). In fact, I've often thought it was amazing that the pivots where the auger tube mounts to the bin haven't worn and gotten loose. Methinks it wouldn't be a bad idea to get it balanced after reading the responses here. Thanks! Tom langan

We've been balancing these augers for a long time with great results. We just turn the thing on a set of bearings and then add weight to the light side of auger. We weld the weight to non-flow side flighting toward middle of auger. If auger has been warped from welding on new flighting it will still wobble but it can be balanced. You have it about right so take back that part about being dumb. Have a good one
