Combines Baling straw behind a R62

Yes the chopper will cause a problem UNlESS you remove the reverse bars, shim the helicals etc to move the straw through with out tearing it up as a factory equipped grain machine will do. IF you do the mods listed and run the chopper on slow (make sure you don't overload the chopper-watch the light) you can have nice long straw that will bale and start a bale easily. I am sure others will have similar comments. If we can bale tall thick soft red winter wheat straw you should be able to handle yours.

tbran is right. I am currently running a hypermized R62 and a new R65 in wheat. The hypermized R62 leaves nice and pretty straw while the 65 turns nearly all of it to dust.

If you are needing a used impeller kit, I might have one for you... was on a 1998 R62... less than 600 hours was replaced with a chopper kit about a week ago. I don't know if that is what you want to do, I would be interested in trading it for another chopper. I plant a lot of continous wheat and really like the chopper. Took about 3 guys about 3 hours to trade out. We are located in lyons, Kansas. Steve

Might want to mention that there is a tweaker screw on module so he can set the light to come on maybe very close to when tweety bird starts singing. And if they should have trouble with chopper wanting to plug at that slow speed I would fill in the first couple rows of 1"X1 1_4" holes just ahead of chopper on the floor. Oh yea and I'm sure what you mean by shim helicals is for the old flat iron helicals in the old P1 systems. Have a good one.

I went out to Abilene Machine yesterday and picked up an impeller kit. Will be putting it in today. I don't know yet whether or not I will use the chopper again, but am going to keep it for the time being. I put all new knives in it just last fall. Thanks, vern

What's wrong with shimming the 4 steep pitched helicals in P3IJ

Nothing at all that I know of. Just don't know if it is worth the extra effort. Just didn't want the guy to think he had to shim channel helicals. I have shimmed steep pitch helicals by 1_8" in many machines and even 1_4" on one machine. I did the shimming to try get edible beans threw when it was cloudy and very slow cylinder speeds. Didn't help to speak of so we came up with the rotor sweeps which was the ticket. St. John welding and I have very similiar idea on these sweeps and I'm sure you will be hearing more about them as time goes on. Take care
