Combines Bars on CDF Rotor

This came from Keller, it is his baby. This is for the stock guy who wants the increase in capacity and nare a grain on the ground. We have found the reverse bars do not take the hp as did the old cylinder style did. We have successfully run first row all forward, second row all forward, third row 3 forward , one revers two sections left blank but with 2 short bars (cut a forward bar to approx 8" and bolt it next to second row - rh side this leaves a 2_3 blank or no bar section ) 1 long reverse bar in position 4 with other 5 bars long forward. Tighten the sep grate UP 2 or 3 marks if you have the adjustable sep grate as it makes things flow a bit better especially with damp corn shucks at night. We also use the steep pitch helicals transitioned into the reg pitch and on some machines shimmed the steep helicals 1_8th " and of course use the helical extention. The beauty of this cylinder is you can tweak it to your location with only a monor bit of time invested. Sure is fun to see the smiles that result from this smooooth setup. In all fairness the cdf cylinder is only about 5-10% increase over what we do with the stock old stlye cylinder. However I would venture over a stock machine the CDF would be in the 45-50 increase in capacity in green stem beans and 25% in corn with much better grain samples and less cob...

Tbran or anyone else what kindof bar setup do you recommend for wheatIJ I ran a 75 for about 3 hours this fall and really like the way it was working with the cdf. So I have mine ordered for next year and I need to decide about the bar setup. Thanks Kurt kurtmaurath@ruraltel.net

Reverse bars are still necessary in your application with high-yielding corn_soybeans in order to have adequate time for separation. Row 4 (nearest discharge) is where we have almost always run them; should be the logical place for them. However, we have also run 2 of them in Row 1 in area of thresher concave in order to get more uniform wear of rasp bars in this row. The CDF is quite an impressive improvement.

From your post tbran, I think for the first year I will just move the 2 reverse bars from the first section and swap them for forward ones in the third and fourth sections. Should they be side by side on the third and fourth, or should they be 180 degrees off, or opposite sides of the rotor, or some other patternIJ TIA

I can't make any sense out of that set up no matter how I look at it. Are you sure two reverse bars next to gearbox and no others. I would check to see it was factory assembled like that and then report to Gleaner service. Make sure they ask Keller if they are for some reason sending out like this or if someone is making a mistake. With factory helicals that material on right side of concave would get double reverse rasped and then large portion of that would go over left side of concave for a second pass. Only info I have ever seen on factory assembled CDF is two reverse bars spinning next to discharge ROW A and two spinning in row B. Bulliton come out suggesting moving bars from row B and exchange one with a forward in row C and one with a forward from row D (row D is next to gearbox). I think your dealer should make a call to find out what the deal is. First and only bulliton I saw on this was last spring and they suggested two in row A, one in Row C , one in row D for corn, beans, milo, and wheat. I'm sure things have been fine tuned since then but can't imagine two reverse in row D. It'd be sure what they are suggesting now.

Thanks Dan for the come-back. Yes, it is as I said - At Weltsch's in Redwood Falls, there is a CDF rotor on the floor they have in stock that shocked me to see the reverse bars by the end with the spline drive. So I got real worried that my machine may be the same way, and I walked back to the machine and looked and rolled the rotor over and sure enough there they were also - 2 reverse by the geatbox_drive end. I will get a review going on this, and thanks again!

opposite, also remember, we can add just ONE if necessary and it will do the job - just keep weights the same.
