Combines beard build up

we had the same problem with our combines we sell and our own custom cut units. we installed blanking plates in the first 2 or 3 rows in the concave and on our custom cut units we operate the cylinder at a higher speed. this breaks up the beard into smaller pieces so it will fly rather than fall on the seive. spacing of the cylinder and the concave needs to be adjusted so grain is not breaking or cracking. if all you are making is feed grain , then this doesn't matter. we operate our fan as fast as possible in wheat and barley. and have changed the fan driven pulley to give us even more wind. generally we set the machine by performance, not speed charts.
