Dryland, We usually pack both inner and outer bearings before installation.I also would recommend a new locknut when rebuilding.Have seen a couple asy. come off because nylon locknut failed to hold.One other thing that we do is to add a grease zerk to piston by drilling a hole and tapping for a 1_4"x28,45 degree grease fitting.This way you can grease once a season without removal and repacking.Make sure that you watch behind sheave closely when greasing for excess grease coming by seal.Normally when installing locknt,tighten locknut all the way down tight then back off one flat on locknut.
