James, The curved ones are by far the best. Someone expermented with some curved plastic ones, they worked about the same but only lasted a few hundred acres. K.A.
I'll suggest that if you are going to make your own, use some sort of steel tubing. Crop residue is really abrasive. I'm not sure that plastic would hold up for a whole day.
I made some plastic ones and have used them on over 3000 acres of crop and they show little wear. You have to use 175 or 250 psi Irrigation pipe. The stuff I got was blue. 10" diameter.
