Combines BF6l913C engineIJ

the n1 piston is the flywheel side, (n6 in most engines. ) Why pull the pumpIJ Check the timing maybe, but it it not like the AMBAC units. Some of these units had an electrical wire running to the pump, others did not, and it it does check to see if the wire to the pump fuel retard solinoid is receiving current DURING cranking. IF not repair. If it does not have the wire the throttle must be in the full rpm postion during cranking to allow it to retard itself, of course pull back as soon as engine starts. You can check the pump by pulling and injector and line and reconnecting it and allow it to pop as you crank over the engine, this is a poor mans pump stand. Spray should be clean and atomized with not a drip or stream allowable. Injectors, maybe, a reason but usually on older engines a bit lower compression and slower cranking speed is the culprit. On Deutz engines make sure the tappet clearance is .006 cold after standing shut off for at least 6 hours. I would suggest also checking out the flame heater or thermostart, many were equipped with this and it works great, if it is functional, check it out, it actually burns diesel in the intake to heat. The other means is to install an auto either such as late model units have. We usually close the holes up in the nozzel meter device to only allow about half of the shot to be deliverd, this prevents knocking and allows a longer slower injection of the ether. Hope this helps.

My m3 also starts hard in cold weather . Even with ether it belches smoke and runs on about 3 cylinders for about a minute . Rebuilt injecters not much difference. It has 4400 hrs. Could it be injection pump or low compression IJ thanks

I had a 52 with Deutz that had a defective governor on the pump. The mechanic and I used fingernail polish to make our own timing marks. When the pump was repaired we just lined up our own marks. Saved all of the hassle of trying to fuel-time the engine.

That is typical of a 426 Allis engine.MandW premium sleeve kits are about the only cure for cold starts other than block heater.

With 6800 hrs. I thought it may be time to do it. How many hours can one expect out of the Bosch pump before overhaulIJ When fuel tanks get low and it sits for a while it ends up with air in the system like it bleeds back. Maybe I should concentrate on the supply pump and related fittings. Also hand pump seems weak, pump and pump on it and very slow to rid system of air. Not sure if it has electric solenoid to retard timing, will check today. It does have electric shut down solenoid. Engine is plumbed for flame heater, but I don't think it is equipped with the heater. Does have ether injection that I rewired with a switch in the cab.

that sounds like the supply _ hand pump. Also the lines that come from the tank have been suspect in a few cases. In some early models the return and the supply were switched. Make sure you have a good non leaking supply to the pump.

The ones that have the ring up top for superior compression seal. Not your standard ring configuration. They are available from time to time based on production run.Just priced a set for my 220 and can get them right now.Sitting downIJ About $1400 for cyl kits only.

gulp! guess i can live with a cold start. had a friend to tell me to put in an in line electric fuel pump . said it would help with horse power.
