Thanks Bleed Red for stating the obvious so well. It is not my intention to turn a site like this into a commercial for any particular dealership. But when someone seems to go out and bad mouth this one then I felt the need to state a few things about it. It seems to be the same old story when someone gets successful. "He must be doing something illegal" Or "is he trafficing illicit drugs", or any other crazy theory, because no one can be successful without doing something bad. Maybe it is just the fact that leon Walterman had the nads to go out on a limb and try something that benefited all parties involved and that no other dealership was doing. I agree with you red. Go talk to any one of the employees. They all seem very content and well compensated. He has learned that you need to pay your help more than peanuts to keep them with you and learning and growing with a successful team. I have seen too many talented techs treated much less and leave within a short time from other dealers.

I will still say that it would be pretty hard for you in your 2 ton to get the call at 6AM, find out what you need and make sure it is in the truck, take off and careen down the road and drive for about four hours before you even get to the guys farm let alone find the machine which will take another half hour and supposedly this is faster than the guys local dealer (R used 30 miles so I will too) which is about fourty five minutes drive awayIJIJ You can't deliver that. If you really rack up 500 miles_day (not much time left for actual service here),this means the customer will have to wait in line till you get to him (wonder of wonders) then it all depends on how long it takes to get the other guy(s) done before the customer in question gets treated. I am sure service is part of the contract with the dealer. I just think you are overstating the ability to get there "quicker than the other guy". Funny no one else is doing ths.. enjoy GS

I am beginning to wonder if you can even read green. Have you ever heard of motelsIJ Who says they have to start every morning in DikeIJ And don't you think that if they don't have the part on the truck, that they might be just smart enough to stop by any other dealership on the way to the service call and buy itIJ

Please dont shoot me, I'm just an outsider looking in. My hat goes off to Mr. walterman for having such a vision and following through with it. I wish him and all who participate well. But........., when you say he pays the help good and wants to keep techs for the long run, history has shown that to be the demise of all good businesses in america. If he and his company are making money, there will always be someone else to come in with "cheaper money" and out compete the current system. Without knowing the particulars of your contracts, I am wondering if it includes any provisions for your responcebility in the case of bankruptcy of the providerIJ The reason I ask is as some of you may know and remember a few years ago about the ABT bankruptcy. What a mess. It's still in court and will be for a while yet. A lot of farmers got burned beyond belief in that one. And very unexpectedly too. The laws of bankruptcy are very strict and there is no reasoning with the courts. Just make sure you have you lawyer explain your responcibilities to you in that event. let's hope it never comes to it.

anteater does a pretty good job describing that situation on one of the earlier posts below. It is going to have to be a bankruptcy by Case Credit to make all hell break loose in my opinion. On the flip side of long term help, I have seen techs promoted to head mechanic in such a short time because the dealer had no one else to give the job to. I wouldn't want some of these same people changing the air in my tires. And that ended up being the demise of my closest dealer a few years back.

There is no way that a dealer that is 200-300 miles away will be able to take care of me better than a dealer 30 miles away. First they wont have the parts on the truck second they wont have the parts in the dealership and third they wont have enough people. It takes one tech per 8010 with laptop not like the 23s where anybody can fix them and everybody has parts. I will stick with local. It would serve all you distant shoppers right if the locals close up so you had to go 200 -300 miles for planter parts when you really need them and as far as being cheaper I do not think so. My 2cents. and thats all its worth.

I am glad you have great luck with your local dealer. I wish I had one that was that good. My local dealers barely keep oil filters on hand for 88 series, let alone anything else. And that is no joke. I live in a 66 dominated market area and have to drive 70 miles for 88 parts if I were not in this program. I am just saying that it has been a good thing for us and several neighbors. Nothing more, nothing less.

You're comments are exactly related to what people say about Cat. "There's no way they can service me, they're 100 miles away." It's no where near impossible though. It's very common for the Cat techs to see the home office once a week or less. Parts are dropped in central locations so they can pick em up, as well as other customers. There's plenty to be said for having good service, and it doesn't strongly correlate to distance from the dealer. Chads

actually, you said something else.. BTW, you can get any filter you want at your local NAPA store. What case dealer is it that doesn't stock oil filters, anywayIJIJ gs

"It is going to have to be a bankruptcy by Case Credit to make all hell break loose in my opinion." I hope for the sake of the farmers who actually have a roll contract that this is true, for experience tells me it is not. I, like old pokey, wish you good luck. GS
