bigtom, I doubt that Im the only one here that knows how to set a 2388, but since no one else has helped you out Ill be glad to tell you how I set my two 2388s. Since were harvesting wheat now Ill start there. In wheat you should have the small wire concaves, and slotted grates installed. The concave should be set at 1 or 2 depending how hard threshing the wheat is. Run the rotor about 800 RPM. Again this can very depending on how hard threshing the crop is. In the mornings when it is damp we run has fast has 900 RPM and in the heat of the afternoon we sometime slow down to 750 RPM. Run the fan at about 1050 RPM. Set the chaffer (thats the top sieve) at about 1_2 inch and the bottom sieve at about a 1_4 inch. If you are harvesting corn, the first thing you have to do is take out the small wire concaves and slotted grates and install the large wire concaves and key stock grates. Before you put the large wire concaves in pull every other wire out of at least the back concave. I cut a lot of high yielding irrigated corn so I pull every other wire out of every concave. Run the fan at about 1050 to 1100 RPM, set the concave to 3 clearance, slow the rotor down to about 400, open the chaffer to 3_4 and the sieve to 1_2 , raise the feeder chain to the top notch, and lower the pan under the back beater and youre set to go. I use that same basic setting for soybeans also. All I do when I go from corn to beans is speed the rotor up to about 600 RPM and close the chaffer and the sieve just a little. Now go tell Dad and Big Brother to change flat on that truck while you set the combine and since you set it you get to run it first. Good luck!! KA
