go with a late(94) 1688 or 2188 air cleaner I have the 93 1688 and want to swap for a 2188.

Have you condidered installing another 1680 air cleaner in parallel to the original. We tried this last fall, and were satisfied. We did not install an extra aspirator, but plan on doing it before harvest this year. In over a hundred hours of combining, we did not remove the filters, just the end cover and blew out the loose dust each day. We also have the pre-cleaners raised as high as possible and still get in a fourteen foot high shed door. Good luck SIGNED: BOB

Taking Bob's idea of paralleling another air cleaner with the original is a very effective way of extending air cleaner life. Not only does it reduce cleaning air filters to every three or four days, you will find that the dirt is not nearly as embedded into the filter as with the single and your vacuum isn't nearly as high. We installed a air canister off a TR96 with a "Tee" to the original and hooked up the aspirator as well. We were really pleased and as an added benefit you will find the combine, in our case a 2188, has more immediate response in heavy going.

If the filters stay clean with two filters with precleaners, Wouldn't the two precleaners be making the differenceIJ Has anyone put a tee on the single filter and connected TWO PREClEANERSIJ

I don't think two pre-cleaners on one air filter would do the job. That 8.3 engine running at 2700 rpm draws too much air for that filter element.(I have mentioned before that with brand new filters, the restriction gauge will pull down to 19 on the first heavy pull). The engine in 1688's and up runs slower, and they all have larger filter elements, and still have plugging problems. When we twinned our 1680, I did not install another aspirator on the exhaust, just teed the line to the two pre-cleaners. A job for this summer will be to install another aspirator venturi in tandem on the exhaust pipe. It is also time to renew the oilpump and fan bearings. SIGNED:BOB
