Combines Biggest Grain Growers

When I was on harvest back aroung 1980-82 we cut for a guy outside of Denver in the small town of Byers, Co. He hired at least 24 combines, had his own bins that were lager than the local elevator, had scales and dump pits the whole 9 yards... Rumor has it about 1988 he bought 20 or so Massey combines direct from the factory, and that just about did him in....... I have seen some articles about some of his nieghbors and they are just as large..

I am putting together a website on farms in my area outside of Rochester, NY. Most farms are now over 1,000 acres. The largest is 20 miles East of us is a 7,000 acres of grain and vegetables: sweet corn, cabbage, carrots and pumpkins. Three farms in my imediate area are around or at 5,000 acres. The folks at Springfield are the Dowsons(IJ). Actual acres seem to be a mystery but a few banker friends of mine in that area think that one of the Dowsons farms 10,000-20,000 acres and the other brother,cousin or whatever is in the 5,000-8,000 range. We are about 100 miles south of Springfield and I know a few folks in the 3,000 plus acre range, but I have never heard of anyone farming 25,000 acres. I know of some operations east of Salem that push 10,000 acres, but around here that's unheard of.

He is still going strong as ever. He trades for 20 new CaseIh combines every year. He had been trading with Horizan West for the past few years and they closed there store in Burlington Co. The last I knew Mike who now runs the Case dealership there in Burlington traded with him last year... If you look on the CaseIh forum of this talk show under the phototgraphs you will see a picture what Marvin has put on there of all 20 of his combines in the field at once.... That is an awesome operatinon what I would love to see one time when it was in full swing..... There is a local guy who works here at our local dealership who grew up in that area and knows the guy personally, he said he is one heck of a good guy...

Hey Alan. Do you know the link to that story.I looked up the Agbrazil site but couldn't find it. I might not have been on the right site,only saw storys of coffee growers.

Sorry OZ,I couldn't find it tonight either.There were some farms under the frontier farming that had row crops.But they were not the one that I was thinking of.Anyway,if you're big enough to build your own barges that are moving product from your own river terminal on the Amazon river your big in the terms of the world in my book.
