Combines Black A 330 head feeding problem

Kaye2, Two years ago I had the same problem with one of my A-330's and what I found was to weld some 5_8 lock washers to the auger flighting. Just in the center of the auger where the feeder beater inserts into the head. I spread the washer appart and slid onto the flighting, then just tacked. If they break off the should not cause any damage to the maching. Seemed to work good for me. Good luck. Jason

If the auger has no flighting in the center I would suggest taking the fingers off the orange 330 and bolting them on. The ones on my orange 430 just bolted on.

I have an A-330 with sickle sections that can be bolted on the auger in 6-8 places. I normally run with them off, but for the conditions that you mentioned I would then put 2-4 on around the center of the auger. It'll definitely feed in better, and later if the crop feeds in better like normal and the problem goes away, just take them back off if you don't think they're needed. The bolts are kind of a hex-shaft that fit very snugly in the hole with self-locking nuts. Hope it helps! Digger

I think I will try to get the fingers off the orange head and bolt them on the newer one, that should do it, without flighting to the center of the auger there is no positive "grab" so that should cure it. Thanks guys!

I have seen a few varieties (usually tall and slick stalks) do this.Unless you love hybrid, I would eliminate it. When I got to next variety problem over. My snapping rollers are in good shape too. Nothing like getting a big Giant Ragweed in there too and doing even more! Went to all RR corn for 07 to eliminate as many Ragweeds as possible plus performance from plots.

I did have the most trouble in one field, very tall high yielding corn, same variety in our test plot did the same thing as well. I replaced this variety, not for this reason but to go with one that did better locally in tests so maybe the problem won't be so bad next year.
