If its not a bearing or a coupler or the rollers then about the only thing left is the bevel gears. Check to see that a set of them isn't worn enough to jump a tooth. Also look at all the splined couplers and gears on that side, maybe one down the line is slipping and it sounds like its coming from between those 2 rows.

Could be a slip clutch, main or row unit, may have a intermittent slip if not adjusted to spec-just a thought.
