I was in St.louis about three weeks ago - 8 farmers from around the Midwest - all at one time in their career had owned a Massey - only 2 of us now. What happens when this generation of a few loyalist no longer farms - I doubt if many of the few new combines MF sells are sold to non-MF owners. Market share is the name of the game - will the Cat group sell enough to helpIJIJIJIJ What does the equation of declining dealer network and market share EQUAlIJIJIJIJIJ

I was raised with Massey equipment. My dad had the first Massey 21A in the area in 1949. We moved up thru the ranks and my last new Massey was an 850 in 1984. When I was ready to trade Massey was pretty uncertain and my local dealer, who is a good guy didn't have anything for me, so I bought my first green one, a 1989 9500. I now have a 9510 that I bought new in 1998 and have to say it has been a real good machine. I still have a gray cab 750 for a second machine that we ran about 500 acres thru this fall with only one break down on the bean head. I still have a bunch of older MF tractors used for all sorts of odd jobs, but my 2 main tractors are Magnums. So, I guess this all makes me sort of a half-way old time Massey guy, whatever that is.

MF market share has almost doubled this year. Many combines have been sold to competitive owners.

I saw on my MF dealer here in town that they have a Deere CTS and a 9600 that people have traded on new MF combines so there are two owners that switched brands.

From what I have been seeing there is begining to be other color machines on Massey lots. It does not happen over night. I traded a JD on my first 8780 and could not wait to see it go down the road. Have a Merry Christmas Ferge
