Nothing wrong with tring to better no matter how low the losses are. You may want to do a kernal count with spreader droped and you may be able to tell landlord how great you are doing for the yeild you are getting. I wouldn't dare report what I've heard that some machines will throw out while tring to impress with speed at some farm shows. Anyway I believe your '96 has wide wire rear half of main concave and you may want to check what front half is. If it is low narrow wire you may want to remove every other. Same goes for seperator grate as you would have low narrow wire. Alternative to removing every other would be like hyper does and cut everyother cross bar and slide back. Some guys have removed seperator grate to install cage material and others have just built up every other wire flush with cross bars. I don't know what to suggest for your corn for we don't have problem with any of the combinations. I will say that I believe to many cross bars with exposed leeding edges can roll leaves and straw preventing the seperation it is put there for. Have you tried removing every other seperator barIJ I'm not to worried that the combo you become happy with for corn will work in your other crops. Slower cylinder speed will likely be in store for you when you get it wrapped up. let us know what your thinking when you get cylinder out. There are a couple more tricks in the works to get closer to zero loss. Catch ya later

I forgot to mention that I do have every other wire removed from the separator grate but not from the concave. Maybe trying the every other cylinder bar is the way to go; and I assume that would be only in the separator area and not over the concave correctIJ I'll get back in here after we get the rotor out and see what we can come up with. Thanks.

Bill, I couldn't of said it better. I feel the same way as you do about rotor loss. Trying different things on my 1999 R42.

Bill, I would pull every other rod out of the concave also, if you have the tight spaced concave, along with closing front three openings of concave with filler strips. This makes for quick and complete shelling up front in the processor, and allows immediate seperation starting right after the filler strips. Grain damage is reduced with this setup also. Wish a safe and profitable year to you all in the New Year!! Keep up the good work on this site too.
