Combines Bouncing Beans

That sometimes happens with Mexican jumping beans. The solution is to open the chaffer. I had that problem with a very old machine that didnt have a shaft monitor. The clean grain drive chain broke causing the shoe to fill with corn. The Chief Money Spender was walking behind the machine when it happened and she got all excited about beans bouncing off the chaffer. At first I thought she was seeing things. Good luck Tom in MN

I have had the same problem with the 62 we used to have. Never could figure out how to stop it. Our new STS took care of the problem. (And a lot of other problems)

Calvin, Why don't you go back to your JD board and yuck it up with your fellow green boys unless you have something positive to offer. If you were too dumb to figure out something such as beans bouncing out the back then I pitty you when the STS starts giving troubles. Here are some possible problems you may have been having. Air-- probably too much Shoe load---not keeping enough material on it. Sieve setting not open far enough. These are just a few of the simple solutions, I am sure that some of the really good quys on this board will be able to shed some more light on this situation, however I hope you,Calvin, are not here to read them as if this is the only way for you to contribute then please don't. kw

YEP, Same problem here. The breaking of a clean grain elevator is a very educational experience with the gleaner. I learned more than ever when that happened. To answer the question at hand, yep its the opening of the chaffers, top AND bottom. If either one is too tight, the beans go bouncing out the rear. I set mine to the book value, it seems a tid bit on the trashy side, but I get every single bean with no dock at the elevator. As for my two neighbors with STS combines (sleaze bag gleaner traitors) they had fields that looked freshly drilled two weeks after harvest. Other things to check. Make for darn sure that you've got the right screen in, size matters when it comes to that top chaffer. Also, check the air, make sure your actually choking down the fan when you spin the wheel.
