there is more than bushings to check. you have two bearings on the big cranks on the sides . behind them on the auger drive shaft, there is three more bearings . there is also needle bearings in the arm pivots. start the machine up. you hear the knock and see arms jumping where out. install bushings in middle of throw.

My top sieve broke in the middle a few years ago,I had it welded at the local shop but it cracked again the same season,my bushings and bearings were good,so i bought a new sieve and haven't had any problems for three years. It's a heavy sieve and i don't think it has the strength after it's been welded.

When you check your bearings and bushings also ckeck for wear on the drive shaft where the right hand bearing sits. The one behind the big pulley, This has a habbit of wearing and will still be loose after you fit a new bearing. Also make sure the shoe is in the middle of the stroke when you tighten the bolts onto the bushings.

check the eccentric casting that goes on the hex shaft, ours were out of round with each other and did not match up with the new ones. Bad day at the foundry.

Bearings and bushings all wear out. We got a 2388 which had perfect bearings and bushings after being through the dealer shop. After 140 hours we had repaired the sieve 4 times and done some bearings and bushings. Of course my dealer and Case IH in Racine said this was the first case they had heard of and felt like it was just bad luck. Because we had trouble exactly like this with our 1688 and 2188 before this combine, I figuared it must be a design or poor quality parts issue. I have searched a long time but I just got a hold of a guy in N.D. who has patented a repair kit exactly for these sieve problems. If you are interested in his name you can email me. The kit costs 270.00 and he guarantees to fix the problem.
