I wasn't aware that any agricultural based company had emissions requirements to meet with thier engines. Just O.T.R. applications such as Cat, Detroit, Cummins, Mack, and Volvo.
Mine never run long enough to get hot and catch on fire. Just wouldn't run. All off road engines have to meet emmission requirements just like over the road rigs. EPA mandate. Must be incompliance by 2005. Older machines built prior to this law are grandfatherd in,_out.
Our '02 STS worked great. When we first started using it we found the the temp. gauge didn't work properly (only had one bar showing) dealer fixed that no problem. I think the engine did run a little hot at times because one morning, while doing the service checks I noticed there was burt straw on the top of the engine. I guess I got lucky.
This has been a problem is Australia as well. Check to see if any material is trapped underneath the stainless steel cover that is bolted onto he top of the exhaust manifold. People have removed them and modified the air stream from the fan to clean all this material away. Yes they do run a lot hotter than they should. I think there is an ECU update to fix that. If that does'nt fix it - put on a Self Adjusting Power Box from ATO and notice the differance. It is a totally changed machine. Runs cooler, less fuel and more power. They way they should be!
No it is not fixed. I worked on it today though. Went to the Cat dealer and am negotiating a trade. Never been anything but green on this farm, going on fifth generation. I have been telling everyone that I have been screwed by John Deere so bad that now I'm color blind.
